I was in prison and you came to visit me

Dear brothers and sisters in Christ.

I am so happy to share with you what God is doing in Egypt through our brother Bassem. A couple of weeks ago, he called me and shared with me his heart's desire to start a ministry with the prisoners in a facility which holds hundreds of inmates. I told him it would be a wonderful ministry and to go ahead with the needed arrangements. Yesterday, he received official permission to meet with some of the nominal Christian prisoners. Sixty-five men filled the meeting room.

Bassem led them in worship and singing hymns, then shared the story of the Resurrection with them. He reported the time was very encouraging and that after the service, many of the inmates gathered around him and began sharing their stories. Bassem is very encouraged with this new outreach opportunity, and the Lord sent him a donation of Bibles to give the prisoners on his next visit in 3 weeks.

Bassem is praying that God will raise up leaders from the heart of the prison to lead other inmates in their spiritual journey. Although a door was closed to Bassem in Jordan, God has opened a wide door in Egypt for sharing the love of God with a very need prison population.

May the Lord use every word and gesture of love to attract the hearts of these prisoners to God's kingdom. Let us pray that many of them will commit their lives to the Lord Jesus as personal savior. Pray also that God will restrain the spiritual forces of evil that will oppose Bassem and his work, and that God  protect him, his family and his ministry in Jesus’ name.
